George Miyasaki, Untitled, 1958 (This work is on view for the first time.)
This exhibition showcases recent significant acquisitions by well-known abstract expressionists including Jackson Pollock’s Green and White Square (on view for the first time in more than 20 years). The Pollock alone is worth the trip to Stanford. Unseen for two decades, the work is not an image you can even find on Google. (Trust me, I’ve tried.)
Additional artists in the show include Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Jules Olitski, Miyoko Ito and George Miyasaki. (above) These works, dating back to the 1950s, represent pivotal moments in each artist’s career, showcasing the stylistic developments that would later define their practices. These thoughtful acquisitions by the Cantor create a diverse presentation that provides insight into American abstraction.
