Jane Tsushima High School Art Award 2023
In 2019, the San Leandro Art Association developed a $500 Art Award for graduating high school students in the San Leandro Unified School District who will be studying art in their continuing higher education. Due to the Pandemic the first award was given in 2022. The Art Award is named after Jane Tsushima who has been an active member since 1975. She is currently 104 years old and continues to be an inspiration to SLAA members to explore art throughout our lives.
The students are selected by a vote of the high school art teachers based upon four criteria:

Hardworking and warm in nature/Collaborative.
Needing the financial support to pursue their career in art.

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
