Kris “Urbanrezlife” Longoria shares the making of Prayer Ties

Join Kris “Urbanrezlife” Longoria for an Inside Look at “Welcome to Indian Land”

Born and raised in San Francisco, Kris “Urbanrezlife” Longoria is an enrolled citizen of the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma, a mother, artist, writer, and activist whose work carries history forward.

As a child, she lived through the Occupation of Alcatraz. Today, she helps make sure its story is never forgotten. As lead exhibits advisor for Welcome to Indian Land, the permanent exhibit that opened in September 2025, she helped shape how this history is told. Her own prayer pieces are on display on the island, and she continues to work with the National Park Service and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to keep the story alive.

Come hear the stories behind the exhibit and the thought, intention, and hands that go into making her prayer ties.
